We’re still unpacking a galaxy of new Samsung gadgets that arrived at the office. The 40mm Silver version of Samsung’s latest smartwatch, the Samsung Galaxy Watch8, is available from us.

But first, a brief unpacking. The Samsung Galaxy Watch8 and the same proprietary 10W wireless charging puck, which terminates with a USB-C cable, are packaged in a plain white cardboard box. The new proprietary TPU strap is also kept in the inside compartment.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra serves as the inspiration for the new cushion design, which you’ll notice right away. In summary, the casing is composed of a round AMOLED display on top of a brushed aluminum squircle piece. Samsung was able to make the Samsung Galaxy Watch8 thinner thanks to the new design; it now only measures 8.6 mm. At only 30 grams, it also feels fairly light on the wrist.

Samsung is also providing a larger 44mm size, which increases to 1.47 inches, but our 40mm version has a 1.34-inch diagonal. You get Sapphire Crystal protection and a maximum brightness of 3,000 nits, which is a significant improvement over the 2,000 nits peak on the Watch7 series, regardless of the size of the casing.

Samsung’s Dynamic Lug system, which is said to improve activity and health readings, is also included in the updated design. We’re excited to see how the new Antioxidant Index performs in the real world, and One UI 8 Watch has a ton of new health and activity tracking features.

The speakers are located on the opposite side of the Watch8, while two side buttons are located on the right. Unlike the Classic version, there isn’t a physical rotating bezel. Rather, the panel’s edges vibrate to create the illusion of a “digital bezel.”

The Watch8’s 325mAh battery is said to last up to 40 hours when the Always-on Display (AoD) is off and 30 hours when it is on. In our thorough review, we’ll make sure to test this and every other important feature.

Feel free to take a look at our hands-on Samsung Galaxy Watch8 series in the interim.
